For those of you that are new to SISL, it all started in 1975 with a group of weekend warriors that began playing soccer on Sunday mornings. Eugene Sibbald was the original person who was inspired to bring people of different national origins together to play a friendly game of "futbol". It was a rather informal gathering of "rag-tag" athletes that played skins against shirts for quite some time. My father, Santo joined the league in 1982 and became an honorary member, alongside "Cowboy" Wardrip, Tim Bee, Wally Augustine and Sammy Deeb, who began playing in their late 30's and played well into their sixties. Eugene and my father were close friends and upon my father's untimely passing, asked me to run the league and name it "SISL" (Santo's International Soccer League). Toby (Cowboy's son) and myself continued the tradition of "Sunday Soccer" and eventually moved the league from Clay park (a patchweed of grass and sprinklers) to the official sized Pershing field. We've become a group of 60 players that can't wait to show up and play a competitive, but friendly game EVERY SUNDAY! "Same Time - Same Place". SISL plays all year with new quarterly rounds; supplies referee(s) and jerseys. We always welcome back our former roster members anytime they show up and always welcome new players to join us. Come and play with us and enjoy continuing the wonderful tradition of "friendship soccer". Contact me at 619-991-0706 or danny.valentini@gmail.com
